Dr. Michael Brenner is Professor Emeritus of International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, and a Fellow in Transatlantic Relations at Johns Hopkins. In this interview, we discuss his new article: “Why the Surprise? Lies, Lies, and The Death of Bin Laden” – a reaction to Seymour Hersh’s recent article “The Killing of Osama Bin Laden.”

Is American public discourse becoming nothing but big lies and myths? Are our political leaders operating in a world of mythology that most of them somehow believe in? Can anyone competent enough to become a decision-maker actually believe that the “War on Terror” is real? Could a new “cataclysmic and catalyzing event” such as the triumph of 9/11 truth, economic collapse, or defeat in war puncture the neocon mythology and bring America back to reality? These are some of the questions raised in this segment  – the first hour of a 90 minute interview. (The final 30 minutes, a detailed discussion of the alleged killing of Bin Laden, will be broadcast Wednesday.)
