Dorion Sagan on new book “Lynn Margulis: The Life and Legacy of a Scientific Rebel”

Dorion Sagan and Lynn Margulis

Happy Birthday Lynn Margulis! (Today would have been her 75th.)

National Medal of Science winner Lynn Margulis (1938-2011) may one day be remembered as the prime catalyst of a paradigm shift that re-wrote the history of life on earth. She was also a courageous and eloquent 9/11 truth supporter.

Lynn’s son and co-author, Dorion Sagan, joins me today to discuss the new book he edited: Lynn Margulis: The Life and Legacy of a Scientific Rebel. Nestled among the many tributes to Lynn by her scientific colleagues is one essay by Lynn herself: Two Hit, Three Down – the Biggest Lie: David Ray Griffin’s work Exposing 9/11.

Lynn Margulis is the most intellectually exciting collection of tributes to a major scientific figure that you are ever likely to read. Among the topics:

*Lynn’s work with James Lovelock developing the Gaia hypothesis that Earth is a kind of homeostatic super-organism (but definitely not an organism per se.)

*The paradigm clash of Lynn’s symbiotic theory of evolution versus the neo-Darwinian orthodoxy of Richard Dawkins, culminating in the 2009 Margulis-Dawkins “Battle of Baliol” debate at Oxford.

*The implications of Lynn gradually winning her decades-long argument with the neo-Darwinians and becoming a sort of “modern-day Copernicus” (Peter Westbroek).

*Science as a search for the truth about reality, in all its messy detail, rather than the elaboration of tautologies based on internally-consistent but factually-inaccurate paradigms (neo-Darwinism, the official story of 9/11, etc.)

Dorion Sagan is the author of 24 books, including some of the best science writing available today. His next book Cosmic Apprentice: Dispatches from the Edges of Science is due out in May from the University of Minnesota Press.

Kevin, I just downloaded some recent programs from your site (wanted to hear some intelligent talk radio 🙂 I was very happy to hear Dr. E. Michael Jones on your program! I actually mentioned him & his book 'the jewish revolutionary spirit' to you the first time you had me on your show. I havent read that book yet but have read his synopsis of it & cant wait to read it. You should have him back on.

I first heard of Jones last year after his associate at romancatholicreport.com had linked to some of my articles. After that, i made a point to listen to a number of interviews that they did together. absolutely great stuff, & probably the "niche" that i can most relate to. Since then, http://romancatholicreport.com regularly features my articles.

Also, I hadnt known you'd gone to Iran! Wow.

A while back, i came across something & saw that you have written several books. You really need to self-promote more, I hadnt even realized that you've written books. 🙂 I'd like to support your work; how many books have you written, what are the titles, & how much is it for all of your books?
