Wendy Goldsmith of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition discusses the Canadian women’s boat to Gaza scheduled to sail next September. Wendy writes:

This month, in celebration of Mother’s Day, we concluded our worldwide call to name the boats that will sail to Gaza in mid September. Amal-Hope and Zaytouna-Oliva will sail to Gaza in mid September. Both women’s names represent many languages.

Amal symbolizes the hope that we will bring to the shores of Gaza and Zaytouna symbolizes the mighty olive, the tree of life in Palestinian agriculture. In addition, Oliva was the name of the civil protection boat that Italian activist-journalist Vittorio Arrigoni sailed in solidarity with Palestinian fishing boats in Gaza before he was murdered in 2011.

We also honour Mother’s Day’s origins in the 1800’s with women speaking out against war. We intend to carry this spirit forward with our mission. We have been deeply encouraged by the interest in this important project, which will not only highlight the role of women in the struggle, but will also bring attention to what is happening to each and every person living in Gaza. We are constantly encouraged by the resilient spirit of our sisters and brothers in Gaza and we will continue to bring their stories forward as we campaign to lift the brutal and illegal siege of Gaza.

We received over 160 excellent and thoughtful name suggestions, and have now made the difficult decision to select two names for the boats that will sail to Gaza. Each submission is appreciated and the Freedom Flotilla Coalition looks forward to ongoing support as we prepare to sail in mid September.

Amal-Hope and Zaytouna-Oliva will sail with the purpose and determination behind these women’s names.

Nachman Abramovic demonized Palestinian children stating:

“They may look young to you, but these people are terrorists at heart. Don’t look at their deceptively innocent faces, try to think of the demons inside each of them. I am absolutely certain these people would grow to be evil terrorists if we allowed them to grow. Would you allow them to grow to kill your children or finish them off right now? Honest and moral people ought to differentiate between true humans and human animals. We do kill human animals and we do so unapologetically. Besides, who in the West is in a position to lecture us on killing human animals. After all, whose hands are clean?”

Whoever shared the quote above, would have done well sharing a reliable reference to the quote and maybe telling us who is Nachman Abramovic. Maybe then it would have given a little weight to the quote instead of falling into the category of "see, we are good, they are evil".

In a similar fashion, I can quote the many muslim imams who convert the Congregational muslim Friday prayer into a "let's hate the jews and scream on the microphone how Allah and his prophet has cursed the jews for good".

As a Muslim I can certainly recall the many Friday prayers when I felt that I just was part of a hate voodoo session.

Those who say that they care (Muslims or not), should care in the name of love, love for justice peace and worldwide harmony, instead of fueling their alleged caring with the hate of a particular group of misguided humans.

Oh well, maybe I am just getting too philosophical as I am getting older and instead I should just memorize the alleged hadiths that popped up Out of nowhere and out of context 200 years after the death of the prophet, where it say he cursed the Jews. That should help me feel more comfortable during some Friday prayer gatherings.

    The misfit Muslim.
